Arsinoe II, wife of Ptolemy II, died 270 BC. Oktadrachm or Mnaieion (Gold, 29mm, 27.77 g 12), Alexandria, c. 253/2-246 BC. Veiled head of Arsinoe to right, wearing stephane and with a scepter passing behind her and with its lotos-tip above her head; behind to left, Λ. Rev. ΑΡΣΙΝΟΗΣ ΦΙΛΑΔΕΛΦΟΥ Double cornucopiae bound with a fillet and filled with fruits. Svoronos 476. Troxell, Group 3, p. 44 and pl. 7, 4. An elegant piece, struck on a broad flan. Some minor scuffs and scratches, otherwise, extremely fine.
