Macrinus, 217-218, Emesa. Tetradrachm (Silver, 26 mm, 12.46 g 11). ΑΥΤ Κ Μ ΟΠ CΕ ΜΑΚΡΙΝΟC CΕΒ (retrograde) Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust of Macrinus to left, seen from behind. Rev. ΔΗΜΑΡΧ ΕΞ ΥΠΑΤΟC ΠΠ Eagle standing facing with spread wings, his head turned to left holding a wreath in his beak; between legs, radiate, draped and cuirassed bust of Shamash to left. Cf. Prieur 1006 (but no letter on reverse), Roma 4, 2012, 625 (this coin). Of great rarity, one of only two examples of this type known. Toned and with a remarkably realistic portrait. Very fine.
