Leo VI the Wise, 886-912. Solidus (Gold, 19mm, 4.31 g 7), ca. 900-912. +MARIA+ Veiled bust of the Virgin facing, orans, wearing tunic and maphorion; to left and right, ΜΗR and Θu Rev. LEOn En Χ.ω bASILEu S Romωn Elaborate facing bust of Leo VI with long beard, and wearing a crown with a cross composed of four pellets, and a chlamys with tablion; holding globe surmounted by a patriarchal cross in his right hand. DOC 1a. SB1723. Extremely rare. An attractive and clear example. Some minor marks and edge bangs, otherwise, nearly extremely fine.
