Mezezius was one of the cospirators that, in the summer of AD 668, killed Constans II. After his death, the army proclamed the Armenian as emperor, choosing him among many rapresentatives of the byzantine nobility. Hir reign was brought to an end by the intervention of the exarch of Ravenna, who remained loyal to Constantinus IV of the Heraclian dynasty.
