Apparently the entire production of the city of Motya took place before its destruction by Dionysos, tyrant of Syracuse in 397 BC, in a very limited time span of about 30 years. Right between 400 and 397 BC the city coined a lot of tetradrachms and didrachms, adopting a new type of obverse, with a female head that is very close to the style of the engraver Kimon of Kimon.
