The city of Akanthos, colony of Andros, coined a lot of silver specimens from 500 BC. According some ipothesis, the typology, lion that bitting the bull, is described by Herodothus. He says that Xerses' camels, wlaking from Akanthos to Therma, were attacked by lions because in this area lived many lions and bulls with gigantic horns. Indeed, the choices are more complex and ancient because some origins are linked with mith of Kybele and Anatolian traditions.
