Caracalla (198-217), Sestertius, Rome, AD 213; AE (g 22,48; mm 31; h 7); M AVREL ANTONINVS - PIVS AVG BRIT, laureate, draped and cuirassed bust r., Rv. P M TR P XVI IMP II, view of the Circus maximus: arcade of fourteen arches with a large triumphal arch at either end, above which are shrines at the far side; down the center extends the spina with its central obelisk; on the l. of the spina, a fountain and an unidentified object and on the r., a trophy, a fountain and a rider on a prancing horse; in ex. COS IIII P P / S C. RIC 500a; C 236.
Very rare, bold portrait, minor flattening on reverse and scattered cuprite spots, anyway extremely fine - good extremely fine.
