COMMEMORATIVE MEDALS, WORLD MEDALS, RUSSIA, The Cruiser Aurora and the October Revolution, commemorative Bronze Plaquette, c.1970s, starboard ship portrait, rev ship's name, 33mm x 62mm. Extremely fine.
Aurora was a Pallada Class Cruiser. Launched in 1900 she saw service in the Pacific Far East during the Russo-Japanese War. Having served in the Great War it was her refusal to carry out an order to put to sea, which sparked the October Revolution. At 9.45pm on 25 October 1917, a blank shot from her forecastle gun signalled the start of the assault on the Winter Palace.
