Dirham AH 86 (705), Tiflis. Inscription centrale sur trois lignes, entourée d'une légende circulaire / Inscription centrale sur quatre lignes entourée d'une légende circulaire. 2,66g. A - ; Klat - ; Shams Eshragh -.

Unique et d'une grande importance historique. Très bel exemplaire.

This coin dated AH 86 is unique and of great significance. Album mentions only coins from the Tiflis mint dated AH 85. This dirham, with its crude calligraphy, shows that the dies used for the coin must have been prepared and struck locally. It is likely, since there were few if any native Georgian Muslims at this time, that it was manufactured to pay the Muslim troops in the Umayyad army. The bullion used for the coins was probably obtained locally as part of the booty acquired after the capture of the city of Tiflis. As such it is a very early example of a "conquest" coin.
