LE MONDE ARABE
FATIMIDS OF EGYPT AND AL-MAGHRIB
A UNIQUE DINAR STRUCK IN SICILY. al-'Aziz, AH 365-386 (975-996).
Dinar AH 385 (995), Siqilliyah (Sicile). Légende circulaire sur deux cercles concentriques séparés par un cercle vide. Point central / Légende circulaire sur deux cercles concentriques séparés par un cercle vide. Point central. 3,85g. A 703 ; Nicol -.

D'une importance particulière pour la numismatique de Sicile. Unique. Beau.

Unique. While the principal gold coin of all other Fatimid mints was the dinar, Sicily alone issued the quarter dinar, or tari, as its chief coin. Nicol records full dinars with the mint name "Siqilliya" dated AH 345 and 361 of al-Mu'izz and 415, 416 (?) and 422 of al-Zahir. This is the first dinar recorded from Sicily bearing the name of Nizar al-'Aziz. While the island and province were both named "Siqilliya", it is very likely that the actual mint place was Palermo (Balarm), the chief town of the island.
