Dinar AH 234 (848-49), Makka (Mecca). Inscription centrale sur trois lignes, entourée de deux légendes circulaires / Inscription centrale sur cinq lignes, entourée d'une légende circulaire. 4,12g. A 229.1 ; Bernardi 155ef.
Une monnaie d'une grande importance. Très beau.
A coin of outstanding rarity and historical importance. Only three pieces known. Mecca's first Islamic coins were not issued until late in the Abbasid period. This dinar, dated AH 234 (848/9) is one of the earliest gold coins recorded for this prestigious mint. The mint of Mecca issued very few coins and it is thought that these issues were made for ceremonial purposes only.
