LE MONDE ARABE
ILKHANS
Ghazan II, AH 757-758 (1356-1357).
Dinar AH 757 (1356), al-Jazira. Inscription sur cinq lignes dans un polylobe entouré d'un cercle / Inscription sur cinq lignes dans un cartouche en forme de fleur accosté de six petites inscriptions. 3,82g. A - (cf. A2272).

Très beau.

This coin is of the greatest rarity and from an unrecorded mint for this ruler. Ghazan II is the last Ilkhan ruler (Mongols of Persia) and his gold coins are all very rare. As noted by Stephen Album, although some Ghazan's dinars from Tabriz were already published in the 1850's, they were misattributed to the Jalayrid Shaykh Hasan, as "Hasan" and "Ghazan" are usually written identically in Uighur ("Gasan"). The mint of "al-Jazira" is unrecorded by Stephen Album. It was located close to Jebal Judi (or Judi Dagh), which was the traditional Mesopotamian site where Noah's ark grounded after the flood.
