LE MONDE ARABE
IRAN - SAFAVID DYNASTY
THE ONLY EXAMPLE EVER SOLD AT AUCTION. Sulayman I, AH 1079-1105 (1668-1694).
20 Ashrafi AH 1096 (1685), Isfahan. Inscription sur cinq lignes entourée d'un cercle perlé / Inscription dans un cercle entouré d'une légende circulaire. Tranche brute. 56,98g. Fr. - ; A M2657.

D'une importance exceptionnelle. Très bel exemplaire.

Unrecorded by Friedberg. Presentation multiple ashrafi with no fixed weight standard were given to courtiers on the occasion of Nowruz (New Year's) celebrations in Isfahan during the reigns of Sulayman I, Shah Sultan Husayn and Tahmasb II. These special coins were issued in both silver and gold. All these presentation coins are of great rarity. This multiple is the heaviest Iranian gold coin struck before the reign of Agha Muhammad Khan (AH 1193-1211 / 1779-1797 C.E.) and is the only known example ever sold at auction.
