This gold mohur of 15 rupees dated AH 1184 (1770), regnal year 9, bears the name of the Mughal Emperor 'Alamgir. The striking of this coin by the British - in the name of the emperor but without his authorization - caused offence to the Mughal court and all but a very small number of examples were withdrawn from circulation and melted down for restriking into coins with more conventional legends.
