KOREA. Octagonal Ornamental Chatelaine, ca. 19th Century.
143.32 x 116.50 mm. Mandel-105.2; KCBC-Y-22; KCY-I-33. Symmetrical openwork floral filigree design flanked by inward facing dragons. At the top is a red ribbon which weaves through the top portion of the main design and features charms attached. Two cloth covered bars are attached to the top of the piece, with many multicolored ribbons connected. A total of fourteen main ribbons are attached, with most of these main ribbons splitting into multiple colored ribbons. A total of eighty-six coins, forty-four charms and thirteen seed coins are attached to the brightly colored ribbons. The main frame and some of the coins and charms have remnants of pigment, with the main piece displaying a bright assortment of red, blue, orange and green. An original and elaborate piece. VERY FINE.
