CHINA. Silver Cube Money, ND (ca. 1800's).
Cribb-pg. 121 fig 4.10. Small silver square shaped cube of silver, cut from a larger sheet in order to make smaller units for circulation. Identical examples are noted on pg. 121 of Joe Cribb's reference "Money in the Bank". Figure 4.10 of this reference shows and images of several Pei Yang Arsenal dollars that have been cut and mutilated to make smaller change. Among the pile are three square cube shaped ingots, identical to the piece offered here. Presumably this pinpoints the dating of such pieces to the late 1800's, just prior to the Boxer rebellion. The piece offered here came to us as part of world coin collection of traditional world money. The collectors envelope state "North China Silver Bar". Attractive old toning. VERY FINE.

Estimate: $100.00- $150.00
