JAPAN. Osaka Mint Silver Plaque, ca. 1900.
55 x 85 mm; 119.6 gms. View of the Osaka mint facilities from the bay. Mature trees in front of the building suggest an issue date twenty or more years after the mint was constructed in 1871 by mint engraver I. Sato. Reverse with a central inscription block over a pastoral scene with trees, a fence, and a Shinto Shrine in the distance. Edge marked "Made at the Japanese Mint" (in Japanese). Appears to be silver, but not marked so. Overall matte pearl gray finish with a few areas of minor staining on the obverse. A few light scuff marks. Toned. ALMOST UNCIRCULATED.
Estimate: $200.00- $300.00
