ISLAMIC COINS, ARAB SASANIAN, 'Abd Allah b. 'Ali, Silver Drachm, SK = Sijistan 66, obv governor's name in Pahlawi in front of face, bin 'Ali in Kufic in the second quarter of border, rev mintname to right of fire altar and date to left, 2.77g (Eshragh S, Silver Coinage of the Caliphs, 1752). Border carefully clipped, otherwise good very fine and extremely rare.
Eshragh comments "none of this ruler's name so far recorded". 'Abd Allah bin 'Ali is a previously unknown governor of Sistan from a date that Album considers to be "frozen". It is both extraordinarily rare and remarkable in having the governor's name in both Pahlawi and Arabic. Note the unusual absence of the benedictory formula bism Allah.
