ISLAMIC COMMEMORATIVE MEDALS, EGYPT, Mohamed Saïd (1822-1854-1863), Copper Tribute Medal of the European Nations, 1854, by Stern-Aumoitte, Paris, allegorical figures of Commerce, holding caduceus and cornucopia and attended by Art and Industry, and Egyptia, she holding tablet inscribed "16 Juilliet" and one foot resting on the Sphinx, LA COLONIE EUROPEENNE A S.A MOHAMED SAID VICE ROI D'EGYPTE, rev crocodile on the bank of the Nile between two obelisks, pyramids and sphinx in the background, arabic legend around, 77mm (Divo 190.4). Obverse very fine, reverse better, very rare.
Mohamed Saïd Pasha became Viceroy of Egypt on the death of his uncle Abbas Pasha, 16 July 1854, and governed until his death in 1863.
