ISLAMIC COMMEMORATIVE MEDALS, EGYPT, Georges de Philippar, Exposition Française in Cairo, of which he was President, Bronze Medal, 1929-1930, by Auguste Maillard, head left, rev Cairo sky-line with Minarets of the Al-Azhar Mosque mosque, 68mm. Good very fine.
The obverse of the medal was used again on a medal to commemorate what was to be the disastrous maiden voyage of the MM Georges Philippar in 1932. On the return voyage the ship caught fire in the Indian Ocean and it was suggested that the fire was an attempt aimed at the powerful investigative journalist and writer Albert Londres (born 1884), who perished in it.

Estimate: £80-120
