Kent, Ecgberht (c.775-c.779), Penny, 1.23g, light coinage, Canterbury, Udd, egcberht around beaded inner circle, rx monogram within, rev. :udd: between two pelleted bars, ornamented crosses above and below with pellets in quarters (Blunt 4; Chick 87; SCBI 20 Mack, No 640; N.200; S.874), a field find, light crimping above moneyer's name, an impressive full flan with no chips or cracks, very fine and very rare, this one of the earliest English pennies to be struck, just a handful in private hands.
