Scotland, Mary, first period, 1542-58, 1553, Forty-four shillings or Lion, crowned shield between i g ( Iacobus Gubernator - James, earl of Arran, regent and governor of Scotland), maria.dei.gra.r.scotorum, rev. crowned maria regina monogram between cinquefoils, diligite ivsticam, the second i of the legend over a g, (S.5394), mounted at 12 o' clock with old crease mark running vertically down across shield, lightly cleaned, otherwise full legends, clear date and good very fine, this denomination of Mary, Queen of Scots particularly rare.
