Chimu Avian Bowl. A rare Chimu avian bowl from Peru, ca. 1100 - 1450 AD. This wonderful example is 5" in diameter and is decorated with four panels depicting conjoined birds, an important representation of the male-female duality motif. The birds and surrounding dividing lines are highly burnished, to make them stand out against the matte background. Perfect, with good mineral deposits. Ex Sarmiento collection.
