The younger son of Antiochus II and Laodike, Antiochus Hierax, with his mother's support, maintained an independent regime in Asia Minor for most of the reign of his brother, Seleucus II. Eventually he was defeated by Attalos I of the Pergamene kingdom. Hierax sought help in Egypt, then Thrace, where however he was killed by bandits
