ANCIENT COINS, GREEK COINS, Thrace, Abdera (c.473/70-449/8 BC), Silver Tetradrachm, 14.12g, 9h. Magistrate Deonysas. Griffin to left, its wings raised and the forepart of its body lifting off the ground as if it is about to take flight. Rev. Δ-E-O-N-Y-Σ-A-Σ, horse moving slowly left, within linear frame, all within an incuse square (Strack, AMNG, 72, pl. I, 17 (this coin); May Group LXVIII, p.139, 186). A few light old marks beneath a dark tone, very fine. Extremely rare.
