RUSSIAN ORDERS, IMPERIAL RUSSIA ORDERS, ORDER OF ST. STANISLAUS, Russian Emerald and Diamond Imperial Eagle Pendant. Ca. 1880. 90 (including loop) by 66 mm. 48.31 gm (gross weight). Double-headed Imperial eagle pendant set with a fluted, drop-shape cabochon emerald at the center, the eagle's heads crowned by a circular, rose-cut diamond topped by a circular-cut ruby Maltese Cross. The spread wings and tail set with rose-cut diamonds, the eagle's talons hold a scepter and orb in silver and gold with rubies. All of the diamonds are present and appear original. The largest diamond is 11.8 mm x 9.7 mm x 1.7 mm tapering down to 1.7 mm diameter. The emerald is Indian-carved, drilled, with some scratches and abrasion, the orb rubies abraded. Minor contact marks commensurate with age and use, top diamond chipped, otherwise well preserved, a marvelous piece
Ex Princess Lucille Scherbatow, "Magnificent Jewels" sale, Christie's, Oct. 19, 1999, New York, lot 620 One of Russia's great old ruling families, the Scherbatows served as trusted advisors and loyal retainers to the Romanov Dynasty during the Revolutionary period. Part of the Rurik dynastic line, Princess Lucille's husband, Prince Kyril Scherbatow was a direct descendant of the Kniazi Shcherbatovy.
