RUSSIAN ORDERS, IMPERIAL RUSSIA ORDERS, ORDER OF ST. STANISLAUS, Russian Parcel Gilt Chamberlain's Key. Period of Alexander I (1801-1825). 142 mm (5 ½ inches). On the breast of the Imperial eagle, which forms the key's head, is the crowned Imperial cipher of Alexander I; atop the ribbed, fluted stem, the key bit is done in the form of a cross. Set in later-made, plush-lined, fitted case. Rare and very popular court Decoration. The loop bar on the back has been removed, torch burns near the shanks. Contact marks on plain back. Otherwise very well preserved
The Imperial Office of the Chamberlain was a very lofty ceremonial post, and the symbolic key was the official token designating the holder.
