*Eastern Sijistan, Qudama, base silver drachm, Qudama | bismillah | rabbi in obverse margin, 2.89g (Album 86; SCC 223), broken and repaired but very fine with an unusually strong portrait for the issue, rare The stylised teeth and jaw on the portrait look remarkably like the Kufic letters sin and 'alif. Several pieces of other governors illustrated in SCC also exhibit this feature, although the sharp striking of the portrait makes it particularly clear here. The significance of this – if any – is unclear.
