*Sasanian/Hephthalite, an imitation of a Khusraw II drachm, GD (Jayy), year 20 of uncertain era, with symbol similar to Arabic letter 'ayn (?) in first obverse marginal quadrant, 4.14g, patches of dark toning, good very fine and rare The date recalls the early Arab-Sasanian drachms struck in Sijistan with the frozen date 'year 20' and the letter in the obverse margin does resemble an Arabic 'ayn. However, the same symbol is also found as a Hephthalite countermark (Göbl c/m 21) and is associated with a Brahmi inscription, suggesting that a Hunnish origin is more likely in this case. On the present coin the symbol was engraved in the die rather than being applied as a countermark.
