SICILY. Syracuse. Second Democracy, 466-406 B.C. AR Tetradrachm (16.87 gms), ca. 450-439 B.C.
Boehringer-644 (V327/R443). Quadriga trotting right, Nike flying right above, crowning horses; Reverse: Head of Arethusa right, hair bound in saccos, four dolphins around. A pleasing and well struck example produced from well executed dies. Crack on edge from striking. Very nice details with all geometric designs present on saccos. A hint of minor porosity on the portrait side, otherwise nicely toned and appealing. GOOD VERY FINE.
