MEXICO. Zacatecas. Gilt Cast and Chased Silver Proclamation Medal, ND. Ferdinand VI (1746-59). CHOICE EXTREMELY FINE.
30.3 mm; 11.14 gms. Gr-F6-42 (plate coin); Med-unlisted; her-unlisted; Betts-unlisted. EXTREMELY RARE, probably UNIQUE. Armored bust of Ferdinand VI left; Reverse: Mountain with sun and moon flanking. Medina, Herrera and Betts all mention a proclamation medal from Zacatecas for Ferdinand VI; however, this information was taken from an anonymous pamphlet entitled "Proclamaciones". This specimen was once thought to be that medal, however it is not. The medal mentioned in the pamphlet is supposed to be dated "1746", whereas this is undated and the listed diameter is different as well. Highly attractive with intact gilding and hardly any evidence of handling. CHOICE EXTREMELY FINE.
