MEXICO. Mexico City, La Universidad. Silver Proclamation Medal, 1760. Charles III (1759-88). VERY FINE.
42.0 mm; 23.43 gms. Gr-K-11a; Med-90; Her-80; Betts-478. By A. B. Madero. RARE, we are aware of only seven examples of this medal. Armored and draped bust of Charles III right; Reverse: Arms of the Royal Mexican Pontifical Academy. The rector of the University, Manuel Ignacio Beye de Cisneros, vowed on September 25th 1761 that the university is a loyal vassal to the new King. This was consummated with a medal to commemorate such a joyous day. Well struck on a polished planchet. Very attractively toned with some rose and gold hues. VERY FINE.

From the John Adams Collection.
