MEXICO. Guanajuato. Silver Proclamation Medal, 1761. Charles III (1759-88). CHOICE EXTREMELY FINE.
39.5 mm; 25.83 gms. Gr-K-28; Med-67; Her-60; Betts-458. VERY RARE, the only example of this medal we have handled. Armored draped bust of Charles III right; Reverse: Radiant chalice and sacrament atop mountain, three line inscription below. This same obverse die was used to strike the VERY RARE Nueva Cantabriae medal of Charles III Grove-K-19. Well struck on polished planchet. A few minor rim nicks but nothing detracting from the overall appeal of the piece. Other than the Hubbard piece plated in Grove this is the only other example we know to exist. CHOICE EXTREMELY FINE.
