On The Security and Manufacture of Bank Notes Delivered to the Royal Institution of Great Britain. Henry Bradbury, Esq. M.R.I. May 9, 1856 First or Early Off Print. Self Covered. Very Fine.
Octavo, self covered, 14.0cm by 22.5cm. pp1-11, (12). Titled at top of face page. One page is uncut. Very interesting and important speech by Bradbury which immediately takes note of the 1819 "The Committee" and the plague upon of the Bank of England One Pound note forgeries. He interestingly discusses American siderography with a tone towards respect for their great technology. However, he also points out that bank notes are created by the states (actually banks within states) and counterfeiters actually create notes more often than counterfeit (that is "spurious") notes. This is an interesting, independent early printing. The presentation was gradually expanded and published in book form with plates. This is a rare extract and important Bradbury historical item.
Estimate: $300.00- $500.00
