BRAZIL. Quintino Bocayuva Plaque Obverse Galvano, ND (ca. 1910-1920).
211 mm; 359.6 gms. By Felix Charpentier. A curious and rather enigmatic item. Uniface and seemingly made from a nickel based base metal alloy created through the electrotype process from another model. Whether this piece was intended to be used to make smaller models through reduction, or if this was simply a trial or model of the finished product we do not know. However, it is likely that this was a trial and the finished plaque would be made in bronze. Likely made shortly before or after Quintino Bacayuva's death in 1912, after having served in various posts in Brazilian government for the previous fifteen years. An almost certainly unique item with a lovely early 20th century portrait. ALMOST UNCIRCULATED.
Estimate: $250.00- $350.00
