FRANCE. Ten Piece Napoleon Medals Set, ND (ca. 1800).
10 pieces in set. By Andrieu. Uniface lead cliches of medals produced by noted French medalist Bertrand Andrieu. Housed in an impressive gilt stamped leather folio type display case. Two trays, one removable, hold eight large and two very large medals. The two largest pieces are 140 mm an epigraphic portraits of Napoleon on one piece and conjoined busts of Napoleon and empress Marie-Louise on the other. The other medals are 67-86 mm and include Bramsen numbers: 35, 40, 299, 475, 476 and 1028 as well as Julius-14 and Hennin-23. The medals portray personages and events leading up to the Revolution, Consulate and Napoleonic Empire periods. Wear and distress to the case; however, it serves its purpose, and has protected the medals well for the past 200 years. All pieces with uniformly dark lead gray, without the copper coatings as usually seen. ALMOST UNCIRCULATED-UNCIRCULATED.
