GERMANY. Saxony. Battle of Breitenfeld Silver Medal, 1631. Johann Georg I (1615-56).
64.10 mm; 57.17 gms. By S. Dadler. Pax, Justice and Constantia togate standing atop a hill overlooking Breitenfeld (today a district of Leipzig) with hand descending from cloud above; Reverse: View of battlefield with angel descending from clouds above wielding sword. The Battle of Breitenfeld was the first major victory for the combined Swedish and other Protestant forces in the Thirty Years War. The impressive and expansive design is quite successful in conveying the scope of the battle and the sense of righteous victory on the part of the Protestants. Some scattered shallow scratches and some light old tooling can be noted near the descending angel. Slightly bent, a few edge bumps. Otherwise a handsome large size medal with even old toning. VERY FINE.
Estimate: $300.00- $500.00
