ITALY. Vatican. Order of St. Gregory Breast Star, ND (Instituted 1831).
79 mm; 53.8 gms. Vernon-25; Werlich-1318. Eight pointed gold rimmed, red enamel cross, each point gold ball tipped. Mounted on a faceted silver eight point star shaped plaque. Central gold medallion names and portrays the saint on a blue enamel field. One minuscule surface chip to the red enamel, but there is considerable loss to the blue enamel around the portrait. Reverse with a hinged tunic pin and no maker's mark. EXTREMELY FINE.
