SOUTH AFRICA. Opening of the Delagoa Bay Railway Medal Struck in Silver, 1895. PCGS SP-64+ Secure Holder.
32 mm. Bust of Kruger left, legend around; Reverse: Date in center, legend around. The opening of the railway line that linked Pretoria and Delagoa bay was significant, in that it now gave the land-locked Transvaal republic the ability to be independent from the British Colonies in Natal and the Cape. After the line was finished, travel became quicker, safer and much more profitable. Beautiful multicolored toning showing golden, azure and rose hues. Sharply struck. Prooflike and highly attractive.
