Charles IIII gold Escudo 1804 PTS-PJ MS65 NGC, Potosi mint, KM78. Gem Uncirculated with lustrous and essentially unmarked surfaces with a rather impressive strike. Gold coins were only struck at the Potosi mint form 1778 onwards, and always in much lesser quantities than the profuse silver issues. Minor denominations traditionally represented only 10% of the total production (this date has a measly reported mintage figure of 476 coins in KM) and are scarce in any grade. A handsome specimen of this very elusive type, the finest certified by NGC and undoubtedly among the finest extant.
Estimate: 3500-4500 USD
