Pedro II gold 4000 Reis 1699/7-(R) MS62 NGC, Rio de Janeiro mint (no mintmark on coin), KM98, Russo-31D. A premium coin for the designation, with lovely old reddish toning and well struck and centered on an attractive flan, with a minute rim nick essentially inconsequential and mentioned for accuracy only. The 1699/7 overdate variety, albeit not identified as such in the slab. A charmingly crude two-year type quite scarce in this engaging preservation.
