Colombia
Nueva Granada 2 Reales 1819-JF MS62 NGC, Bogota mint, KM76, Restrepo-138. A superb Mint State coin, with handsome steel toning with hints of orange on the reverse. Better struck and clearly superior to the recently auctioned Lissner specimen in the cataloguer's mind. This historically important type was struck per Bolivar's instructions for the United Provinces of Colombia (as opposed to the earlier Cundinamarca types which were provincial issues) and thus represents the first true national coinage for Independent Colombia. Truly rare and desirable in this preservation, and undoubtedly among the very finest existing for the type.
Estimate: 3000-4000 USD
