Colombia
Republic Confederacion Granadina Peso 1859 MS63 NGC, Bogota mint, KM126. A truly stunning example of this type, Choice Uncirculated with fully lustrous surfaces and delicate incipient toning. The strike is full on the eagle's breast and all other details bold. While only scarce in circulated grades, the silver Pesos issued by the short lived (1858-1861) Granadine Confederation become gradually more challenging in superior grades. Any example close to Mint State can be legitimately considered as conditionally rare and uncirculated specimens are basically unheard of, this being the first such example seen by the cataloguer. The recently auctioned ex-Lissner example of this coin was highly praised as "the finest known" to the cataloguer of that sale who further stated that "no Uncirculated examples were known" to him. It hammered at $2,750 and thus, this obviously superior example should attract serious consideration. Likely the finest known of this type in existence and a glittering gem among the Colombian Republican series. Connoisseurs of this series will recognize the present offering as a truly rare opportunity.

Estimate: 8000-10000 USD
