Ecuador
Republic 4 Reales 1857-GJ MS63 NGC, Quito mint, KM37. Choice Uncirculated with prooflike surfaces and a meticulously sharp detail rendition, particularly on the shield side. Visually stunning with gorgeous rainbow toning over the essentially unmarked surfaces. By far the finest seen by the cataloguer and a treasure of Ecuadorean numismatics. The second finest seen in the last 15 years was the AU55 ex-Helfand specimen (UBS 9/2002, lot 4538) which was deservedly granted the "extremely rare in this condition" compliment. A remarkable type coin, in all likelihood unimprovable and graced with an illustrious pedigree. Ex-Norweb/Lissner collections.
Estimate: 7000-9000 USD
