Ecuador
Republic 5 Francos 1858-GJ MS63 NGC, Quito mint, KM39. Choice Brilliant Uncirculated with unusually attractive and frosty surfaces. The 1858 5 Francos was the first crown struck by Ecuador after adopting the French Decimal standard in 1857. Due to the massive earthquake that struck Quito and destroyed the mint in 1859, this type was not struck in later dates, resulting in a one-year type that is now heavily sought after in higher grades. The present example remains one of the finer seen in recent years and should attract strong attention. From The Law Collection
