Louis XV gold Louis d'or de Noailles 1717-A MS62 NGC, Paris mint, KM428.1 (listed as 2 Louis d'or), Fabre, Deswelle & Wattier-412. 12.235gm, 28mm. A superb mint-state example of this type with deep, golden patina and lineated, darker tone. The fully-rendered devices are noteworthy and the overall appearance of this specimen is highly pleasing. Named for the chief financial officer of the time, the Duke of Noailles. As an aside, this type is often the result of much confusion as it was minted in a new, non-standard weight and was always struck on virgin planchets. In this new standard, the present issue was the heaviest Louis d'or struck. Rare.
