Besançon. Free City 1/2 Taler 1642 AU55 NGC, KM28. An attractive pewter-gray example of this posthumous issue featuring the laureate bust of Charles V and a standing eagle with wings open, clutching two pillars in his claws. An intriguing coin with an equally interesting background as the typical obverse designs from the city of Besançon feature the image or bust of Charles V because he gave Besançon the mintright in 1526 and renewed it in 1534.
