Charles I "Newark Besieged" 9 Pence 1646 VF30 PCGS, S-3144, North-2641 (R). A rare type issued near the tail end of several sieges of Newark from 1645-46, the haste in which it was produced obvious from the clear doubling of the first three letters in NEWARK, the initial off-center strike having split the edge of the flan. A little weakness is noted in the centers, although the remaining details are not as heavily worn as is often the case with siege pieces.
