A striking, gold medal with the obverse featuring the draped bust of Sir William Browne with an inscription surrounding. The reverse motif is also highly-illustrative and depicts a seated Apollo crowning a kneeling figure with a laurel wreath. Highly attractive with alluring harvest-gold tone and deeply-reflective fields. According to Peck, this gold medal was "awarded annually from 1774 for Greek and Latin studies. William Browne (1692-1774) was a physician and president of the College of Physicians in London.
