Great Britain
George III "Northumberland" Shilling 1763 MS63 NGC, Royal mint, KM597, S-3742. ESC-1214. A storied one-year type and the first shilling of George III, struck at the behest of the Duke of Northumberland for distribution in Dublin upon his assumption of the Viceroy of Ireland title. The present piece, about as nice as is found for the issue, has pleasingly toned-over surfaces that display a rich, moderately iridescent mixture of green and gold coloration. Further, the strike is well-placed and only the tiniest amount of chatter on George's bust defines the grade. Truly, very scarce in this condition, and despite the MS64 of this same issue in the previous lot, a coin that should not be overlooked.

Estimate: 3000-3500 USD
